To become an egg donor:

  • Women must be healthy and aged from 18 to 30.
  • They must have a healthy BMI.
  • They must be non-smokers.
  • They must be prepared to commit to an anonymous egg donation programme.

NB – You will be reimbursed for your time and travel costs, and will not pay for any tests associated with the process.

A short overview of the egg donation process:

  • Donors undergo a gynaecological examination, a psychological assessment, and infection screening.
  • Those deemed suitable candidates have a donor profile created and made available to prospective recipients.
  • Once selected, the donor and recipient’s menstrual cycles are synchronised via the contraceptive pill.
  • Stimulation starts three to five days after the pill is discontinued, then egg follicle development is monitored via ultrasound scans and blood tests.
  • When the egg follicles are mature, final egg maturation is induced and egg retrieval scheduled. This is done under general anaesthetic.
  • The retrieved eggs are fertilised with the recipient’s sperm in the laboratory and embryo development monitored for three to five days.
